Mason LLP was founded in 2002 by Gary E. Mason. Mr. Mason was previously a Partner at the nationally recognized plaintiffs' law firm Cohen, Milstein, Hausfeld & Toll, P.L.L.C. where he was the Chair of the Products Liability and Consumer Protection Practice Group.  Mr. Mason received national recognition for his work on litigation over defective polybutylene pipes, ultimately resulting in an unprecedented $950 million settlement.  In 1998, he was recognized by Washingtonian Magazine as one of the top 40 lawyers in Washington, D.C. under the age of 40.

Mason LLP attorneys have served as Lead Counsel or Co-Lead Counsel or members of Litigation Committees on numerous class action cases, including Co-Chairman of the Insurance Committee In re Chinese Manufactured Drywall Products Liability Litigation, MDL. 2047 (E.D. La.), Cordes et al v. IPEX, Inc., No. 08-cv-02220-CMA-BNB (D. Col.) and In re Zurn Pex Products Liability Litigation, MDL 1958 (D. Minn.).  

We have obtained substantial settlements in class actions involving defective building materials, including radiant heating systems, which settled for $236 million, and synthetic stucco (EIFS), which was resolved with a settlement providing case and repairs to more than 7,000 homeowners.

We have also obtained significant victories for homeowners in toxic tort litigation.  We obtained a $6.2 million settlement for the owners and residents of 200 properties in Washington, D.C., after they discovered an underground plume of petroleum from a nearby gas station.  We also settled for $2.25 million a class action arising from largest oil spill in history of State of Maryland, providing significant compensation to property owners and fishermen for their economic losses.
